Project 2

Module 2

Rigorous testing, rapid prototyping, research, and project refinement for the duration of Module 2.

Workshop 1 Geurilla Prototyping I

Initial cut out pieces for the first prototype. The first prototype with the pieces put together. Assembling the second working prototype. A comparison of the prototypes side by side. The final version of the second prototype with added stability and security.

Workshop 2 Geurilla Prototyping II

The illustration for our screen mockup in our initial cardboard prototype. Process of cutting out the cardboard pieces for our second prototype. Gluing the pieces together and initially experimenting with twine. Showcase of simulated stars on the ceiling. Close-up of the fingerprint sensor on the bar ledge.

Activity 1: My Research

Manually twisting the physical threshold gauge of the Arduino microphone sensor with a screwdriver to increase its sensitivity. Adjusting the physical threshold dial with a fingernail instead for ease and efficiency. A photo of the touch sensor being tested with a finger touch. Arduino's readings of a TOUCHED vs NOT TOUCHED state on the serial monitor. Testing which materials trigger the touch sensor successfully. (The answer was metal and skin, but not plastic!)

Activity 2: My Research

External research to inspire the next concept for our project prototype. A fossil dig pit commonly seen at prehistoric museums. External research of a Japanese zen garden, and how to work with sand in calming ways. External research of the Dungeons & Dragons interactive experience. External research of a relaxing hot sand bath experience. External research of a simulated water floor projection experience.

Additional Research or Workshops

A photo of the sound sensor we tested, plugged into the Arduino board. A photo of the heartbeat sensor we tested. A sticker placed over the heartbeat sensor to protect the skin and sensor from direct contact. A photo of the official Pulse Sensor guide webpage we referenced for setting up the heartbeat sensor and testing its official code. Showcasing a successful serial plotter reading of a heartbeat when the sensor is attached to a finger.

Project 2

Project 2 Prototype

For our prototype this module, we successfully set up and visualized a heartbeat sensor interaction with Arduino’s serial plotter, then linked the tracked numbers to an LED and set it up to beat in sync with the participant’s heartbeat. This successfully simulates a major interaction we have planned for our final project where the stars (LEDs) on the ceiling beat in sync with any heartbeat they sense.
